Open when
you are feeling sad
Believe it or not, it is normal for our moods to fluctuate frequently. It is not possibly for the body to consistently release happy hormones in the brain 100% of the time. Mood swings are real and in order to be able to feel happy again, we will all experience lows. Some days will be far worse and we will struggle more, but it is important to remember there is help out there and numerous tools that we can use to try to change our mindset. Instead of withdrawing and isolating from everyone, try positive affirmation, meditation, writing a journal or a poem, a helpline or just reaching out to a friend. Often family/friends/people we know want us to reach out and talk, to express our feelings instead of carrying the burden alone. I also think we would be surprised at how many people out there are in ‘similar boats’ and would understand these feelings that need to be expressed.
So remember when you feel like a burden just remind yourself that you are not alone. If you do not feel like you can talk to a close friend, then talk to a therapist or reach out to one of the numbers below for help. Sometimes when we feel so sad and we can’t find the motivation, we need to force ourselves to do something that will boost the mood. Even the littlest action can help, go find someone or something to hug. Doing something as simple as this will release’s oxytocin in the brain.
